Cable loss can be indirectly measured with the WE-2705P by first measuring the return loss of a cable with the far end disconnected. The measured return loss is simply divided by a factor of two to obtain the cable loss. Care has to taken in interpretation of the results, as discontinuities in the system result in ripple in the frequency response. A significant mismatch in the system could also produce a low return loss figure which would incorrectly be interpreted as a low cable loss. The useful measurement range for reasonable accuracy is Return Loss < 20 dB i.e. Cable Loss < 10 dB.
